The Victims’ Commissioner for England & Wales published her response to the Government’s consultation on its proposed Victims’ Bill (‘Delivering justice for victims: a consultation on improving victims’ experience of the Criminal Justice Sytem’) in February 2022.
Dame Vera Baird is a strong advocate of restorative justice and her report makes the following recommendation:
“We recommend that the Right [to RJ] be reframed so that victims are told not only about RJ but how to access a restorative justice service so that they are sure to get a well-informed professional explanation to enable them to make an informed choice”
