Course Overview
Our Community Mediation Skills Training is an intensive, in-person course designed to take you from zero mediation experience to becoming a fully qualified mediator in 6 days. The course covers everything from understanding conflict dynamics to managing the mediation process.
Using Calm’s training manual, crafted in-house over many years of experience, you will gain essential tools to handle conflicts professionally and effectively within community settings.
How to book
- Simply book your place.
- We’ll have a short chat & send you full the course & payment details.
Cost Options
-
- £1,300 – Certified Mediator (without OCN accreditation)
-
- £1,800 – Accredited Mediator (with OCN accreditation)
Please note that there are two levels of qualification available:
- To become a ‘Certified Mediator’: Complete the Day-6 practical assessment – then you are ready to practise.
- To become an ‘Accredited Mediator’: Complete the Day-6 practical assessment and the accreditation portfolio (+£500), answering 10 questions. Each question has a 250-word limit, and the information is fully covered by the course materials. You will have two months after the training to submit your portfolio (and you can mediate during that time).
Note: in order to qualify you will need to successfully complete the assessed component(s) i.e. the Day 6 Practical assessment for Certificate level; the portfolio essays for the Accredited level.
Certification
Upon successful completion of the Practical Assessment on Day 6, you can receive a Certificate to confirm your training as a Community Mediator.
Accreditation
Upon successful completion of the Accredited Mediator pathway, you will receive the Level 3 Accreditation from the Open College Network (OCN), equivalent to an A-Level.
Opportunities to Practice
As a Certified or Accredited Mediator, you have the opportunity to apply to mediate real cases, with one of our experienced co-mediators.
By joining our volunteer Community Mediator Panel you can consolidate your new skills in a supportive environment.
Our volunteers benefit from regular skills development and supervision sessions, connecting with our thriving community of over one hundred mediators.
Volunteers must be able to travel for in-person mediations and training within the London area, with prior notice, as well as participate in online mediation. We ask new volunteers to attend a brief online induction before starting.
Don’t take our word for it!
Comments from last year’s delegates include:
Thank you for a really interesting and well thought out training course, I learnt so much over the 6 days and enjoyed meeting…all the other students. The practical exercises stand out most for me, and I think were arranged really well. I like the fact that you mixed us up so we got to work with different people and had different examples.
I liked the way the sessions were organised. By that I mean that there was a good balance between what the trainers were telling us, the slides illustrating what they were telling us, the references to passages in the Manual and the various practical exercises.
My favourite parts…were the exercises to get our brains moving in the mornings, the stretching and self care advice and I also really enjoyed the [the mediation practice] to form a picture of what holding a mediation looks like and how the process feels. It was also valuable being a client and a lot of fun!
