Dave has been mediating since 1985 when he first joined Southwark Mediation Centre (SMC) as a volunteer. He was appointed director of SMC in 2000 and was instrumental in bringing the organisation together with Calm Mediation in 2020.
Dave has pioneered the use of mediation in community settings including for high level anti-social behaviour and hate crime. He mediates in diverse situations including in parks and on estates, working with residents’ groups, young people, local authorities, developers, businesses and contractors; between neighbours; in workplaces including on company mergers; divorce and separation; and gang-related conflict. Dave is an accomplished high-conflict mediation trainer, including of youth mediators in schools. He has featured in many TV programmes about mediation, and regularly lectures and presents on the topic nationally and internationally.
Dave was awarded an MBE in 2007 for his outstanding contribution to mediation.
