Family Mediation Service
Inter-generational and family members mediation
How can mediation help in family situations?
We support people (adult siblings, parents, children, in-laws, grandparents) to find a way through all kinds of family conflict situations. This includes inter-generational and extended family situations.
Our mediators ensure that everyone has a voice to achieve greater clarity, generate options and agree how to move forward.
It is a method of resolving conflicts within families. Mediation is an informal, voluntary process that enables family members to find a mutually agreed solution in a safe and confidential setting.
It works to improve or to re-set relationships between family members. With the help of mediators, families in conflict can achieve understanding, peace of mind and a clear way forward.
Step 1
A short call with our office team: we'll explain mediation and answer questions or concerns.
Step 2
Private introductory meetings (IM) - up to 1.5 hours with each client. We'll hear your perspective and prepare for the next step.
Step 3
Joint meeting (JM) – 2-3 hours. We'll enable listening and discussion, and help you find options that everyone can accept for the future.
We understand how challenging family conflict can be. Calm Mediation will ensure that you have two mediators supporting everyone throughout the process.

Frequently Asked Questions
Please contact us to discuss this. We can help you to make an approach to other family members.
In a nutshell, our charges are per person and in two stages.
Stage 1: £180 per person for their private Individual Meeting (couples may be one charge, depending on the nature of their engagement).
Stage 3: £280 per person for each Joint Meeting (couples may be one charge, depending on the nature of their engagement).
There may be an additional cost e.g. for a neutral venue or travel beyond the M25, agreed in advance.
This kind of mediation sometimes requires more than one joint meeting. The mediators will help you to agree next steps at the end of each meeting.
We have a panel of experienced mediators. They come from diverse backgrounds and are of all ages. All have been accredited by reputable bodies and go through our own training and induction process to work as Calm mediators. Two mediators will support you throughout what can be an emotional process.
Yes, we can support young people to sort out conflict situations. Please get in touch.
We also have an award-winning Peer Mediation service which works in schools and colleges. Students are trained and supported to provide mediation for their peers. Participating schools report benefits for the whole school community. See our Peer Mediation page for more information.
Planning for later life care can involve difficult conversations. Sometimes expert help is needed for discussions between family members (or with care providers). Our panel includes mediators accredited with the Elder Mediation International Network, who specialise in this type of support, to allow families to reduce (dis)stress and find a workable way forward.
