Frequently Asked Questions
What happens after I refer my residents to you?
–> We will update you when we’ve made contact with them and pass you the date of any meetings we arrange. On closure of the case, we will send you a case report so that you can see the process followed. We won’t share any content from conversations or meetings
How long will it take?
–> See our service guidelines, bearing in mind that the process may take longer, depending on availability and scheduling.
How can I persuade my residents to say ‘yes’ to mediation?
–> Explain that we are not going to make them do anything they don’t want to. Calm is an independent organisation that takes their information and confidentiality very seriously. Suggest they have a chat with us, and they can then decide what they want to do next. We will speak with them about how mediation will benefit them.
What issues can mediation help with?
–> All issues where there has been a breakdown in communication; noise, rubbish, communal areas, pets, balconies, smells form smoking and cooking etc, clash in lifestyles, parking, gardens, funny looks, former friends, buzzers, when there’s a presence of mental health issues, when racism is part of the conflict and much much more . Our experience tells us that of referrals are made early on in the conflict, it is generally easier to reach an agreement.
What issues can’t mediation help with?
–> Domestic Violence, drug use, out-and-out racism but in some cases feasible as part of our Restorative Justice service.
