I am absolutely thrilled that Calm Mediation joined forces with the wider restorative justice community around a performance of Punch at the Apollo Theatre – particularly during Restorative Justice Week 2025. The production offered more than just an outstanding performance — it provided a reminder of why Restorative Justice must play a central role in the future of our justice system. In addition to the show, I am immensely proud that we as an organisation are firmly committed to being part of the work being done, together with our colleagues from The Mayor’s Office for Policing and Crime MOPAC to make access to RJ a reality for all victims. Seeing Calm’s Head of RJ Julie Clark on stage in the post- show panel ‘Facing the People We Harm’ alongside, Nick Dawson, from Why me? and actor Michael Palin, Remedi’s ambassador, all hosted by Kate Packenham who produced the hit show.
Pivotal moment for Restorative Justice
We are in a pivotal moment for Restorative Justice. The recent amendments to the Victim and Courts Bill tabled in the Houses of Commons by the MP Paul Kohler’s calling on parliament to have RJ enshrined in law, marks an important step in the attempt to embed restorative practice into national policy. Our work campaigning alongside others in support of Jacob Dunne’s “Right to Be Heard” campaign – highlights the importance of ensuring victims have meaningful opportunities to express the impact of harm and, where appropriate, engage in restorative processes that support their healing.
Growing accountability, dialogue and repair
Together, these developments signal a growing recognition that accountability, dialogue and repair are essential components of a modern, humane justice system. Punch brings this to life on stage, giving the public a clear and powerful insight into the transformative potential we see in our Restorative Justice work.
National shift, raising awareness
As CEO, I am proud that Calm Mediation continues to be part of this national shift. Our role now is to help ensure that the increasing political and public support translates into high-quality, accessible Restorative Justice services for all who wish to pursue it. We must do everything we can to build on the awareness raised by Punch and continue to push for Restorative approaches to be at the top of the Justice system’s agenda.
